Nuit du Hack 2016

The ACF represented crocheting at the Nuit Du Hack 2016.

Why did the ACF participate in this event?

Our partner OFC has been holding a stand and a conference at the Nuit Du Hack for several years now. And this year we accompanied him on this event and the NDH is completely in line with the objectives of the ACF.

Here is an example of a conference we were able to attend at the NDH and which is directly related to the fine opening.

What? But we are not hackers!!

In fact, if we take the cliché conveyed by the mass media, indeed, the members of the association are not ugly hackers whose objective is to use knowledge and security vulnerabilities to harm or enrich themselves. On the other hand, if we take the definition that hackers have of themselves, there we recognize ourselves: enthusiasts, curious, whose only objective is to understand and share knowledge in order to improve the security of the field that interests them.

There, it suits us, as Alexandre Triffault said during his conference, “why try to enter your firewalls, your networks, your servers when I can enter your computer room! ». So we are part of that ecosystem.

How was that day?

While waiting for the introductory crocheting workshop organized in partnership with MY URBEX between 8pm and 5am, we had planned to enjoy the event by visiting the various stands.

As we arrived early in the morning to enjoy the lounge, we settled on a table in the lobby entrance of the hotel to chat and of course crochet a bit.

And there, it did not stop! The visitors did not stop approaching us to question us and give us a try. So we went to get a second table and improvised a booth in the large lobby of the hotel. Basically we hacked the hack’s night lobby!

At 6pm we attended the excellent conference held by Alexandre Triffault and Till Lenze whose video you can see exclusively on the ACF website by logging in.

Immediately afterwards, the official stand was set up and immediately stormed by visitors.

What beautiful encounters, which allowed us to present crocheting and the ACF to visitors from all over the France.

But who cares about crocheting?

Great surprise, many of the visitors were already followers, some like a young girl we met, even had their kits on them. Some even told us that they had come on purpose to the NDH for the crocheting part!

The typical profile? It’s simple, there is none! Women, men, young and old. Basically, Mr. and Mrs. everyone, curious, passionate, …

What has the NDH brought us?

We welcomed, at the very least, during the day alone, not counting the “workshop”, not far from 500 people, at least half of whom tried their hand at the toys we had brought.

As for the others, we managed to send them an attractive message about the association. This shows us that there is great potential to bring new people to the ACF because few knew them.

In the nice meetings for the image of the association, there were: the photographer of “KORBEN” who took a picture of our model ACF (Robin) and who interviewed us all, as well as the journalist of the magazine “ZATAZ” whom we also thank.

And a group of people from the ISS (ISS) who were very interested in our approach and want to come to our next meeting.

In summary, great day for the 4 representatives of the Association of France Crocheters and a good step forward for the association as for the world of crocheting.

A very positive result for the association which distributed almost all of the 500 flyers we had on site and full of fruitful contacts. Our site received 240 visits per day in the days following the publication of the Zataz and Korben articles.
